Coram Deo

Sipping my coffee this morning, I’m reminded that this, Deo, is the very way we should live. Before the face of God, in His presence, with life and vitality. Not just on Sundays, not just in the big moments, but in the small ones too, the quiet sips of coffee, the first steps into the week, the work set before us.

What Does Coram Deo Mean?

The phrase Coram Deo is Latin for “before the face of God.” It expresses the reality that all of life is lived in God’s presence, under His authority, and for His glory. It’s a perspective shift, our work, our rest, our relationships, and even our struggles are all done with an awareness that God is near, seeing, guiding, and sustaining us.

Where Do We See This in Scripture?

One of the clearest expressions of this truth is found in

Psalm 139:7-10:

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.”

Paul also reinforces this idea in

1 Corinthians 10:31:

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

 Living Coram Deo Today

This means we don’t separate the “spiritual” from the “ordinary.” Our worship isn’t just in a church service, it’s in how we work, how we parent, how we serve, how we respond to challenges.

Living Coram Deo means walking in integrity, faith, and trust, knowing that our lives are fully seen and fully loved by God.

Let's embrace this truth. Let’s work Coram Deo. Parent Coram Deo. Rest Coram Deo. Live Coram Deo.

We are in His presence.

Let’s walk like it.
